OCXO Stability at Near TCXO Power, Size and Cost

Rakon’s Triton oven controlled oscillators, bridge the gap between high end TCXOs and low end OCXOs in terms of stability, size, weight, power consumption and of course, cost.

Rakon’s ultra stable crystal oscillator products offer the highest frequency stability performance achievable from a TCXO. These TCXOs address markets that require near OCXO performance, but without the high cost or power consumption. The Triton™ product family combines proprietary Pluto ASIC compensation technology with simplified oven control to create a hybrid product capable of stabilities down to 25ppb (2.5 x 10-8) over temperature, in small DIP14 packages.

The Triton uses a miniature oven with simplified temperature control to keep the crystal oscillator at an approximately constant temperature slightly above its specified operating temperature range- e.g between 90°C and 95°C for a device with operating temperature range specified as -40°C to +85°C. Any residual frequency errors occurring over the oven’s limited temperature range are then minimised using the Pluto ASIC’s analogue compensation circuitry.

The result is an oscillator with overall stability nearly an order of magnitude better than the most stable TCXOs- i.e comparable to that of an OCXO- but with lower power consumption, smaller and lighter package size and faster warm-up. In addition, rate of frequency change over temperature is better than that of high performance TCXOs. The Triton is initially available in 10, 12.8 and 20MHz, with HCMOS output, but can be customized to your requirement.

Suitable for Precision GPS Receivers, Telecom infrastructure, Wireless (Femtocell, Picocell, WiMax) infrastructure, and Digital Radio transmitter applications. Sampling is available now with production quantities available September 2007.
