Rakon CEO Joins Ranks of Flying Kiwis
November 2011: Brent Robinson has been recognised as one of New Zealand's foremost technology leaders in the New Zealand Hi-Tech Hall of Fame.
Rakon's CEO,was the winner of this year’s New Zealand Hi-tech Awards ‘flying kiwi’. Brent is the 13th winner of this prestigious award which recognises an outstanding contribution to technology in New Zealand.
Other recipients have included kiwi greats such as Sir Angus Tait, Sir Peter Maire, Paul Hargreaves and Sir Woolf Fisher and Maurice Paykel.
Under Brent’s leadership Rakon has grown from $1 million turnover to nearly $200 million. Staff have grown from less than 15 to 2,300. Brent took over running the company from his father Warren Robinson, when he was just 28 years old.
The award was presented in Christchurch on the 10 November. Brent said he was very honoured to receive the award and that it was very special for him. He said the journey had been a
"roller coaster ride" and he was "humbled" by the award. He gave special thanks to his family and to Warren Robinson (Rakon's founder) and brother Darren (Rakon's Marketing Director).
