Rakon was honoured to present its contribution to India’s historic Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent landmark visit to New Zealand.
During an exclusive business showcase attended by Prime Minister Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on 11 July 2026, Rakon was selected as one of a small number of companies representing the growing technological and economic partnership between the two countries.
Rakon Chief Executive Officer Sinan Altug highlighted the company’s unique position as a bridge between New Zealand innovation and Indian capability, showcasing its longstanding collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), its advanced manufacturing and R&D operations in Bengaluru, and the precision timing technologies that have supported some of India’s most significant space missions.
For more than fifteen years, Rakon has supplied critical timing and frequency control technologies for Indian space programmes, developing high-reliability solutions that enable navigation, communications, and mission-critical systems to operate with exceptional precision.
Rakon products played a key role in Chandrayaan-3, which achieved the first successful landing near the Moon’s south pole in August 2023. Precision oscillators supplied by Rakon provided location and timing references for the navigation systems aboard both the Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover.
Chandrayaan-3 is one of several major Indian space programmes supported by Rakon technologies. The company has also contributed to missions including Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1, and the upcoming Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme.
Rakon has operated in India for more than 18 years and today runs a major research, development, and manufacturing facility in Bengaluru under the Government of India's 'Make in India' initiative, serving customers across India and global markets. The company is India’s largest manufacturer and exporter of frequency control and timing products and a strategic supplier supporting key organisations across the telecommunications, space, and defence sectors.
In 2023, Rakon expanded its Indian operations with a new 9,000m² state-of-the-art manufacturing and R&D centre in Bengaluru. Together with Rakon’s operations in New Zealand, France, and other global sites, the facility plays an important role in the development and production of advanced timing and frequency control solutions used in telecommunications networks, positioning and navigation systems, defence applications, space programmes, and the data centres powering AI infrastructure.
In 2025, Rakon received approval under the Government of India’s Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), a strategic initiative aimed at developing a robust domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The approval recognises Rakon’s contribution to India’s high-technology manufacturing sector and supports the company’s continued investment in local research, development, and manufacturing capabilities.
The showcase took place during a significant weekend for both countries, with Prime Ministers Modi and Luxon announcing a new Strategic Partnership and a roadmap for deeper cooperation across trade, technology, research, education, and innovation.
